The GM Ecotec engine family, particularly the 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4 liter variants, is known for its reliability and performance. However, like any engine, it has its Achilles' heel. One often-overlooked component that can cause headaches is the balance shaft retainer plate. This seemingly small part plays a crucial role in keeping the engine running smoothly, but the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) plate is notorious for being fragile and, frustratingly, unavailable through GM.

The balance shafts within these Ecotec engines are crucial for reducing vibrations, leading to a smoother and more comfortable driving experience. These shafts are kept in place by a retainer plate, typically made from a thin, stamped metal. Over time, this plate can weaken, crack, or even break, leading to several potential issues such as, balance shaft misalignment, severe engine vibration, oil leaks, engine instability and poor performance, this is a problem.

CBM Motorsports™ electronic components and products are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 30 days from the date of purchase. If the any part does not meet the limited warranty criteria an RMA number will have to be initiated to set up an exchange or refund.

The part must be returned to CBM with an RMA number assigned to it, and if it is in acceptable condition, CBM will issue credit directly to the customer. In addition, CBM Motorsports™  limited warranty specifically does not apply to products which have been modified or altered in any way, subjected to adverse conditions such as misuse, neglect, accident, improper installation or adjustment, dirt or other contaminants, water, corrosion or faulty repair, or used in racing activities or competitive  applications other than those recommended by CBM Motorsports™ .
